Recap

This week is an interesting way to start into this series, because I was on vacation from Monday to Friday. So instead of writing my thoughts, I will recap the vacation a bit. You get pictures of it though, which is nice. I put info about the picture in the hover tag.

I and one of my best friends visited a mutual friend in Leipzig, spend 1.5 days there and visited some sights (the Zeitgeschichtliche Forum is a big recommendation). We had two very fun evenings together, playing Dominion on one and overcooked on the other.

An old Wartburg-Wagen A turbine from a plane they weren't able to build commercially Leipzig Monument to the Battle of the Nations

The next day we went on a train ride to Prague and visited the must-see spots (huge castle with cathedral, old town with tyn cathedral, national museum and the observation deck which was sadly closed when we got there). We had an amazing view on the town during the night though, because they have a hill right next to the river.

They used this car to inspect the rails The castle has this huge plaza inside of it, cathedral is on the right This cathedral is inside the castle area It has so beautiful windows And a two stories organ. Two stories! This is a nice bridge to look at, but underwhelming on it This is the hill next to the castle And you can walk up that hill and get a nice look at the city A great national museum, one can spend a whole day there

Thursday we went to Dresden where we also started with the must-see sights (Dreikönigskirche on the way to the old town, where just 5 minutes apart you have the Semperoper, Residenzschloss + Zwinger and Frauenkirche). After those we rented bikes and biked along the Elbe, which was a enjoyable change of pace.

One of the big sights, the golden rider statue It was a big thing when the Carola bridge broke September 2024. Not rebuild yet. The Semperoper, when you climb up the Residenzschloss clock tower Next to the opera is the Zwinger which looks nice and has quite some museums in it. Also, a huge construction site, utterly bombed in WW2 DUCKS And this dragon was in our bedroom
On Friday we travelled back quite early, on one hand because the ticket was a lot cheaper, on the other hand because of our distrust of the Deutsche Bahn. I wanted to be back on time, because I was responsible for a board game event in the youth group I'm active in. Prior to that I visited my girlfriend, and we went to the event together.

On Saturday I planned my last lecture semester, after finishing it (and successfully passing the exams), I only have to write my Bachelor thesis, after which I am done with university. For now. I also started fiddling around with Zora and Ducksquill that day.

And on Sunday we had a volleyball game day but sadly lost our matches. In the afternoon my girlfriend came over, and we made pizza rolls for a fellow students movie night, which we went to after.

Culinary highlight

I didn’t take pictures of these, I might have to start that now.

  • I ate a great vegan Schnitzel in Dresden at Steffenhagen, which I can wholeheartedly recommend.
  • The self-made pizza rolls were really tasty this time, though I didn’t like the vegan sausage we got.

Currently watching/reading/listening

  • We re-listened to the Kangaroo Chronicles on the train, it was a lot of fun. We will also re-listen to the next one while working together in the kitchen now.
  • I am reading Oathbringer from Brandon Sanderson. I won’t spoil anything ofc, but a character which had a lot of focus in previous books made an amazing entry this week which I really appreciated.
  • I am also watching Jet Lag, as the motivation for this website did. I tried watching them with many of their series before, but they were always a bit too much for me, I am easily overstimulated by YouTube videos. This series however has Tom Scott in it, a YouTuber I am a fan of, who has taken a hiatus from YouTube. He is an amazing fit and I thoroughly enjoyed his presence. Looking forward to the finale.

Games

  • I’m playing Splid Fiction with my friend currently, we are a good portion into the game and are really enjoying ourselves.

Projects

  • I installed a ZigBee button, to finally make use of a smart switch I bought on a whim years ago. We installed a new light in the kitchen, in order to turn it on/off you had to run through the whole kitchen. Now we have a second light button right below the original one.
  • And well, I started this website.
